Bonus Track #5 – “Gonna Change My Way of Thinking”: A Conversation with Michael Glover Smith

Many Bob Dylan fans argue that we often understand his work in retrospect or reconsideration. What seemed confounding, confusing, or unsuccessful when it was released reveals threads of Dylan’s genius with the perspective of time and space. This is especially true of the movies Dylan made – those on which he can be considered the primary auteur. In this conversation, filmmaker, author, and educator Michael Glover Smith discusses his new book Bob Dylan as Filmmaker: No Time to Think in which he combines his own experiences as a filmmaker with his extensive research and deft analysis of Dylan’s films to prove how Dylan’s process is similar regardless of the genre he creates in – grounded in tradition, innovative, and true to his artistic vision. Smith also discusses Hekla – his latest feature film that focuses on the day in the life of an artist.

Biography:
